Unitary European Patent To Become A Reality
After over 50 years of European governments discussing how they can unify their patent systems, the Unitary European Patent has now become a reality after the depositing of the instrument of ratification by Austria.
Read an update from the European Patent Office here.
This will reduce costs for businesses seeking to protect their innovations in the EU. The main change is that businesses will no longer have to pay validation and renewal costs in each EU state where they wish to obtain patent protection.
The change will also be another step forward towards establishing a Unified Patent Court, where litigation will take place in future.
