Innovative Ball Tech At World Cup 2026

Will you be watching the World Cup as it begins today? If so, you’ll notice that this tournament will be using a new “Smart Ball”.

The new TRIONDA ball developed by Adidas for the tournament contains a state-of-the-art motion sensor chip, which will track the ball’s every movement. The sensor data will be sent to the video referee system in real time to assist with decision-making.

The ball further incorporates a four-panel construction which has intentionally deep seams. This will create in-flight stability by evenly distributing drag on the ball.

The new ball additionally has embossed icons that are only visible close-up. These will help players to increase grip when striking or dribbling the ball in wet or humid conditions.

The TRIONDA name comes from the Spanish meaning “three waves”, representing the three host nations – USA, Canada and Mexico.

Wishing all teams (and their supporters!) best of luck for the tournament!
