EUIPO Study Reveals Impact Of Covid On IP-Intensive Industries

The EU Intellectual Property Organisation (EUIPO) has published the results of a study into the economic impact of the Covid-19 crisis on intellectual property-intensive industries.

The study focused on industries that use intellectual property rights (IPRs) including patents, trade marks, designs and copyrights intensively.

The analysis is based on the Short-Term Business Statistics (STS) from Eurostat and previous research carried out jointly by the EUIPO and the European Patent Office (EPO).

The study shows that, although IP-intensive industries have suffered the consequences of the lockdowns in the EU more than the rest of the economy, they also show a higher resilience to economic downturns, and could thus be expected to make a quicker recovery, as was the case after the 2009 economic downturn.

You can read the full results of the study here.
